Olympic Fever

- - - Tuesday, February 23, 2010

We're lovin' the Olympics here in the Jefferson household! I don't think I remember being as into it during previous years as I am for 2010. I guess it has something to do with it being in my hometown. As my friend Victoria Banks was saying, 'it's interesting to see Vancouver through the eyes of NBC'. Makes me proud! I thought the opening ceremonies were really spectacular too. Loved k.d. lang's version of 'Hallelujah'. That song is sooooo beautiful...wish I could sing it myself...

Paul and I also have fun with the Canadian/American thing...he cheers for USA, I cheer for Canada. One of my favorite events is the downhill skiing. They're going so friggin' FAST! And when they wipe out I can't believe they just get up and walk away! It looks like they should be in 7 different pieces!

I also love the figure skating events. Congratulations to the Virtue/Moir duo for winning the gold in the ice dancing competition. Yahoo Canada!! I was also happy to see Evan Lysacek take the gold in the mens program. I heard that Evgeni Plushenko said in an interview that he thought he should have won the gold because he did the quadruple spin (lutz..sow cow..whatever you call it) but I didn't think the rest of his program was near as graceful as Lsacek’s. To be honest, I was glad to see him knocked down a notch. Great ice skater but a little too cocky for my liking...listen to me! Suddenly I'm a figure skating expert! Ha!

GO CANADA!!

Driving Under the Influence

- - - Tuesday, January 26, 2010
I was watching an episode of Oprah the other day and she had a very informative show about driving and using cell phones. They were talking about several stories of people, including children, who were seriously injured or killed because of accidents caused by people driving while using cell phones. They even did some testing with 3 people who thought they were 'master texters' and could never be distracted on the road but the results of the test proved that they were indeed driving unsafely. They said that driving while texting is like being under the influence of alcohol and probably worse.  The whole show definitely got to me. I thought about how many times I've been on the cell phone while driving and missed exits or turns because I was distracted...and worst of all...sometimes with my daughter in the car! Totally NOT worth it! Anyway, I've decided since watching the show to not use my cell phone while I'm driving. It's just too dangerous. I think sometimes we forget just how big and heavy these chunks of metal are that we're hurtling down the road in and the risks are high enough without talking on the phone!

There are some places in the world that have already made it against the law to use cell phones and drive and I think it's a good idea.  I know most of us are guilty of this but I hope that some of you may read this and choose to stop driving under the influence of cell phones!

The Great Tennessee Snow Storm of 2010

- - - Thursday, January 07, 2010
Oh my God! There's been talk all week of it...the grocery shelves are emptying rapidly...could it be? Snow in Tennessee?  Yes, it looks like we're going to get a little snow and it's utter mayhem in Nashville! I think it's so funny how people react in the south to snow! We probably won't get more than an inch or so but already schools are shutting down in preparation and some offices too. I went grocery shopping today and lo and behold...they were running out of alot of things that they normally have...you have to stock up when disaster strikes, you know...ha!  I have to say, it has been really cold here and will be getting colder...even for my little Canadian butt!  Anyway, I hope we get lots of snow...I'm not planning to go anywhere tomorrow except maybe to go out and make snowballs and snowmen! I'll keep you posted on how Nashville survives 'the great snow storm of 2010'...

2009 - A Good Year

- - - Wednesday, December 30, 2009
We're just about to say goodbye to 2009 and I have to say it has been a really good year. There have been a few years in the past when I've thought 'thank God it's over!' but this year I bid it farewell with fond memories. Of course the biggest thing this year was the birth of my daughter...I never thought I'd be a mommy!  But it has been an amazing blessing and I so look forward to what 2010 will bring with her.  And I'm also very happy about 2009 bringing us the launch of The Jeffersons...never thought I'd be part of a duo either!  So many changes! You just never know which way the world is gonna turn!  Hopefully 2010 will bring lots of exciting opportunities for The Jeffersons....I'm sure it will.

Have a Happy New Year and  CELEBRATE!!

LISA

PS. - Did you know that there will be a blue moon this New Years? First one in 20 years! Could be a crazy night! Be careful... :)

United Hates Babies?!?!

- - - Tuesday, December 22, 2009
We just arrived home from a trip to Calgary AB on Friday. We had a performance at the Jack Singer Concert Hall and a spot on 'Breakfast Television', a local morning TV show in Calgary.

And now I have to do some complaining about the airlines...well, one specific airline. We flew United on the way up and we've discovered that they don't like guitars and they don't like babies either. (check out this very popular YouTube video from a guy who had his guitar busted up by United).

Just before take off I asked the flight attendant if I could have some water to make a bottle for Ivy and they looked at me like I was asking for the moon!  Then, they are supposed to inform all parents with babies the proper way to hold them for take off and landing...but not a word to us.  Then...here's my favorite part...I had to change Ivy's diaper (major poop) and I asked the flight attendant if she could dispose of the diaper for me which was nicely wrapped up and sealed tightly in a plastic baggy. She said that she couldn't throw it out for me because it was considered a bio hazard and that they weren't even allowed to touch it! Ha! My baby is a bio hazard! I had to chuckle over that one...

On the flight home we flew Northwest...they were much nicer and very helpful.

Merry, Merry, Merry

- - - Tuesday, December 15, 2009
The three of us are heading out for one more trip to Canada to finish off the year. We'll be in Calgary this week for a show on Thursday night at The Jack Singer Concert Hall. Just a few songs as there will be other artists on the bill as well. I just checked the weather for Calgary and the high today is -22 C! Holy Crap! Our Nashville winter clothes are not meant for that kind of deep freeze....

Anyway, aside from that we are 2 weeks into our SellaBand project and it's going very well. It's like Christmas every morning around here...the first thing we do is go on line to see who else has joined up as Jeffersons believers! When I look back to first getting started in the music business I would never have guessed that the internet would be such a huge part of the industry now. It's amazing what you can do and how many people you can connect with. We have believers from all over the world....Italy, Germany, Portugal, France, The Netherlands, just to name a few. All just a click away!  Awesome....

Paul and I want to thank all of you who have checked out the SellaBand site and bought shares in our project and we (Ivy too) wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Paul and I had our first photo shoot as The Jeffersons last week. I think we got some really great stuff! The first set-up was the two of us in claw-foot tubs...yes, bathtubs! My first thought was 'what the....??' but they actually ended up being really cool shots. You just never know what quirky idea is gonna work.

It's really starting to get exciting with all the planning around The Jeffersons. We sang at The Bluebird Cafe on Oct. 30 and had a blast singing together and the people really seemed to enjoy it. We had our little Ivy with us too, which wasn't exactly in the plans but we couldn't get a baby sitter so we decided to bring her. A little nerve wracking I must say...the Bluebird is known for it's very intimate...very quiet setting and 3 month olds don't always like to abide by those kinds of rules! But luckily she did great! Quiet as a mouse.  Paul's parents were in town so Grandma sat with her while we played.

This week we are going up to Vancouver. We have a concert at The Surrey Arts Centre on Friday. Should be fun...home town show! Plus, we get to show off the babe to all the relatives she hasn't met yet!

Ivy on the Road

- - - Tuesday, October 27, 2009
Well, we did it and lived to talk about it...Paul and I took Ivy on the road with us for 9 days touring all over Alberta. Grandma and Grandpa Brokop met us in High River, AB and were a HUGE help with Ivy! They even took most of the night shifts! Paul said he had to admit that he'd been dreading the trip since before she was born...ha! (the dates were already booked when I got pregnant) but luckily everything went very well and we had a pretty good time.

It was also our chance to introduce Paul to the people we played for when he joined me for a few songs and we were able to talk about our upcoming project as 'THE JEFFERSONS'. It really was pretty cool to get to perform together and the audiences really seemed to like what we did. We're both excited now to get working on the record. That will be our focus over the winter and of course getting Ivy to sleep through the night too...

We're both doing an 'in the round' at the Bluebird on Thursday....that should be fun!

Mama's Gone Wild

- - - Sunday, September 27, 2009
I finally got out of the house last night and actually put makeup on and shoes with heels and combed my hair and everything! My friend has a 3 month old and a 2 year old and was in need of a night off too. She had tickets to a show and her husband wasn't feeling well so she called me and off we went leaving the dads to tend to the babies! First we went and ate Mexican food and then went to the show. I even drank a beer...yup, one whole beer...whoo hoo! Watch me go!

The tickets were for a benefit concert downtown and had a bunch of people performing...The Little River Band, the band Orleans and also the lead singer from Survivor sang 'Eye of the Tiger'. It was pretty cool! It was good to get out in the world and see that it's still turning! The only trips out of the house lately have been to the grocery store or to Target for diapers.

Having a break is always a good thing. It helps to put things in perspective and recharge a little.
But it was sure nice to see my little Ivy's face when I got home...she's so darn cute!

CCMA's

- - - Saturday, September 12, 2009
I wanna wish all the nominees of the CCMA'S this year the best of luck! Especially to my good buddy Victoria Banks.....she has a ton of nominations! YOU GO GIRL! Unfortunately it may be bitter sweet for her as she is mourning the passing of her mother but I know her mom will be smiling down on her as proud as can be!  I won't be able to attend this year...bummer! But as you know, I have other things going on right now that are taking all my time and I've won the biggest award of all...my little Ivy!  Have a great time everybody!
