Lisa at the CCMAs in Edmonton, Alberta - Day 3

13 Sep 2004 It's the day of the Awards Show and it all began with a dress rehearsal for the show at Rexall Place. As is often the case, things were running a little behind so Lisa spent some time hanging out in the Green Room. She had the pleasure of meeting some great people - The Jenkins, Ed Hervey and Sean Fleming of the Edmonton Eskimos, Ellisa Lansdell of CMT Canada and two of Canada's gold medal winning athletes, Kyle Shewfelt and Lori-Ann Muenzer. After Lisa's segment of the rehearsal was completed, it was back to the hotel for a couple of interviews before having a late lunch. The awards show began at 6pm local time here in Edmonton, so the evening began early. The awards show was great! It moved along at a breakneck pace and was filled with amazing performances by stars including Gretchen Wilson, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and host Paul Brandt. There was also a fantastic roots segment with performances by Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Sean Hogan, The Corb Lund Band and Hall of Inductee's The Good Brothers.

Following the show it was over to the convention centre for the Post Awards Gala. It was a time for Lisa to meet many of her fans and to take photos and sign autographs for them. Sounds like a full day! Well, it wasn't over yet. As frequently happens at these functions, there was an impromptu 'guitar pull' at one of the host hotels. Lisa dropped by there and performed a couple songs with her industry peers.

It was a great CCMA Week in Edmonton. It is always a time to reconnect with friends and to enjoy some great country music. And we'll do it all again next year in Calgary!

Lisa at the CCMAs in Edmonton, Alberta - Day 2

12 Sep 2004 Day two at Country Music Week began with a trip to Rexall Place for Lisa's rehearsal for the Awards Show. She will be presenting the Socan Song of the Year along with fellow recording artist, Deric Ruttan. Lisa is thrilled to be presenting this award, seeing as how she herself is a songwriter. Folowing the rehearsal, Lisa actually had a few hours of downtime - enough to at least enjoy a meal and go out for a run. The weather in Edmonton has been very nice, with sunny skies an comfortable temperatures. The evening began with the Gala Awards Dinner, where a number of awards are presented including the Hall of Fame induction (this year was the Good Brothers) and the Manager of the Year award (for which Lisa's brother Dean was nominated.) Ron Kitchener, manager for Doc Walker and Jason McCoy took home the award and was well deserving. Following the awards dinner (which was long at nearly 4 hours) Lisa and the gang headed back to her hotel where an impromptu jam was taking place in the lounge. It soon be quite a party and Lisa got up to sing a few tunes including Wildflower, Hey Do You Know Me and a new one from her album, Write a Book About Me. She also sang Two Name on an Overpass with Duane Steele, a song for which she and Duane won a CCMA Award in the mid-nineties. Aaron Pritchett also dropped by the jam - earlier in the evening Aaron was recognized as the Independent Male Artist of the Year. Congrats to him!

Lisa at the CCMAs in Edmonton, Alberta - Day 1

11 Sep 2004 Well, day one at Canadian Country Music was a busy one. It began with Dean and Tim flying into Edmonton in the morning from Vancouver. Immediately upon arrival, they drove downtown to the Industry Awards Brunch at the Shaw Convention Centre, where the award for Website of the Year was to be presented. Unfortunately, www.lisabrokop.com did not win, and the trophy went to the website for Jason McCoy. Lisa and her band leader Tom, arrived in Edmonton shortly after noon and after a quick stop at the hotel, headed over to Fan Fest, a free outdoor festival for fans . Lisa performed two songs, her current single Wildflower and the title track from her upcoming album, Hey Do You Know Me. Also on the stage with her was Jake Matthews, Sean Hogan, Deric Ruttan, and The Jenkins. After signing autographs for about an hour, Lisa, Dean and Tim headed back to the hotel for a quick bite to eat.

The evening was action packed and started with a visit to the Citadel Theatre for some industry showcases. We took in performances by Colin Amey and The Corb Lund Band, both which were fantastic! Next up was a stop at the Universal Music/Open Road Recordings party at the Starlite Room where we caught performances by George Canyon and Julie Roberts. After spending an hour or so there, we moved on to the BMG Music 'Karaoke Party'. It was great fun and Lisa kicked off the night with a rendition of the Dixie Chicks 'There's Your Trouble'. By this time, with our stomachs telling us it was time to move on, we headed back to the hotel and ordered some pizza before turning in for the night. All in all…it was great first day! Stay tuned…
